Embedded leadership

Fractional AI governance lead

Senior AI governance leadership, part-time, for teams that need it before they need a full-time Chief AI Officer. I sit on your AI committee, review what’s about to ship or be signed, and keep product, legal, security and sales telling the same story.

Format
8 to 10 hours a month
Remote, with on-site days as needed
Duration
Ongoing, 3 months minimum, then month to month
Good fit if
  • You’re piloting AI without a risk assessment or an incident plan
  • You’re launching your first conversational AI in a regulated industry or to consumers
  • Your staff use AI tools without role-based training
What you get
  • An AI committee with a clear remit, a regular rhythm and a decision log
  • An AI inventory and risk register that stay current
  • Review of new AI features, models and vendors before they ship or sign
  • Quarterly reporting to leadership and the board on AI risk, incidents and readiness

The programme includes

  1. Set up or tune your AI committee: who sits on it and what it’s allowed to decide.
  2. Set priorities: which AI initiatives to back and which to stop, based on their real value and on what your organisation can absorb.
  3. Review what’s coming against your framework: new features, use cases, models and vendor contracts.
  4. Keep the record current: the AI inventory, risk register, model and system documentation, decision log and policies, updated as regulation changes.
  5. Watch where practice drifts from policy: unsanctioned tools, sales claims, incentives that reward shortcuts. Company culture is where AI risk shows up first.
  6. Report to leadership and the board, in plain language, every quarter.

Policy and standards

AI governance policies that get followed

Get AI governance policies tailored to your scale and risk profile, with named owners, clear decision rules and the steps to take when risks materialise.

Format
Interviews with leadership and the teams using AI, then drafting and review sessions
Remote
Duration
4 to 8 weeks, depending on how many policies you need
Good fit if
  • You have AI principles but no policies behind them
  • A customer, investor or auditor has asked to see your AI policy
  • Your staff use AI tools with no written rules
What you get
  • An AI governance charter: who decides, and what your AI committee can approve
  • An AI governance policy and an AI risk management policy, mapped to ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI RMF and the EU AI Act
  • An acceptable use policy for staff
  • For smaller teams, a single integrated AI policy that covers all of the above

The programme includes

  1. Discovery: how AI is built, bought and used across your organisation, and who already makes the calls.
  2. Framework mapping: the standards and regulations that apply to you, from ISO/IEC 42001 to the EU AI Act and US state laws.
  3. Drafting with legal, risk and the teams who’ll work under the policies, in language they can act on.
  4. Scenario testing: each policy run against real situations from your teams, such as a new vendor, a customer complaint or an unchecked sales claim.
  5. Handover: final documents, a one-page summary for staff, and a date to review them.

“Who signed off on this?”

Better to have the answer before a customer or a regulator asks. Bring your AI plans to a call, and we’ll work out where the gaps are.
